Aspiring video editor with a background in visual design
The following projects encompass classes taken at Diablo Valley College (DVC)
Digital Editing
Intro and Intermediate classes. Mechanics of editing through Adobe Premiere and the art of editing through discussions, film viewing, reading, and editing projects.
Footage and transcripts provided by EditStock. Process included reviewing footage, creating a paper edit, creating and organizing stringouts and selects in order to create a 7–8min documentary. I was responsible for all aspects of the final cut which includes titles, color grading, and sound design.
Footage was provided by Adobe and was part of a contest they ran a few years ago. This project allowed me to use multi-camera editing and experiment with some effects.
Footage provided by EditStock. The EditStock download also included a lined script, camera report, music and sound effects. I was responsible for all aspects of the final cut which includes titles, color grading, and sound design.
Intro to editing class first project on continuity editing. Pieces of footage were provided and it was upon us to choose the shots that, when cut together, created a story that made sense. Concept of sound design was introduced.
Exercise to utilize the color workspace and HSL secondary tab in Premiere in order to perform a unique color grade. In two of the three examples, I show how the original image goes to color correction first, then to color grading.
Motion Graphics
The fundamentals and production of animated 2D graphics focusing on typography, graphic objects, and still images.
15–20 sec project where we were instructed to convey an emotion (but not actually share with the class what emotion we did). The process included doing a mindmap and a moodboard.
Film Production
Introduction to single camera narrative film production with focus on fundamentals of scripting, producing, directing, and post production.
First short film utilizing my story concept. The parameters included a limited shot list with no camera movement, no dialogue, and a final version no longer than 1:30. Shot on DVC campus in roughly 2hrs with a Canon 90D. Pre-production storyboard and shot list was split among our 3-person crew. I created all the graphic elements and provided art direction. Post-production editing included color grading and sound design.
This [my] edited version was selected for the DVC Art-Digital Media & FTVE Student Showcase which was shown on May 19, 2022.
Final project. Responsible for the storyboard, script breakdown sheet, and sound recording. Sound recording was done using a zoom recorder, wireless lavs, and boom mic. This was a 5-person crew. We shot on two separate days with roughly 2.5 hours for each day using a Canon C100 and Canon 90D. Post production included editing and creating a poster.
Fundamentals of Digital Video
How to create, capture, and edit digital video. A more informal class compared to Film Production where cast and crew consisted of myself and friends helping me out.
In coming up with the story concept, the parameters I set for myself were that it needed to be filmed in one location, little to no dialog, and it should include some VFX. Pre-production involved creating a script and shot list. For post production, I edited in Adobe Premiere with dynamic linking to After Effects files. This was shot with a Canon 90D and portable LED video lights rented from the DVC equipment library .
Concept and dialogue inspired by TikTok and Funny or Die parody videos. Shot using a Canon 90D. Pre-production included creating a shooting plan, storyboard, and shot list. Post production including editing in Adobe Premiere and motion graphics in After Effects.
VFX of choice. I had a general story idea that I wanted to use which included creating a holographic image. I used my iPhone 8, a tri-pod, and green screen fabric. This was edited in After Effects.
